With just 19 days left until Valentine's Day, you've still got time to get a 3D printed gift for that special person in your life.
For this season, Choc Creator Version 1, the world's first 3D chocolate printer, is printing mask of your face made out of chocolate. Using the principles of rapid prototyping to layer molten chocolate, rather than plastic, 3D chocolate printer is able to create any shape you can imagine. The company behind Choc Creator, Choc Edge is offering a 3D printing service to print 3D chocolate face - customers can simply send an image of themselves via e-mail and the 3D chocolate printer creates a chocolate portrait in dark, milk or white chocolate for between £50 and £80.
Feeling a bit more creative than a box of chocolates and roses for this Valentine's Day? 3D model marketplace CGTrader is inviting artists to rethink the concept of presents of Valentine's day and create 3D printable gifts and attributes for this occasion. Designers are invited to create 3D printable items for Valentine's Day 3D Printing Challenge - gifts, romantic souvenirs or anything related to the day of love.
The author of the best portfolio will be awarded with an Asterid Open Source 3D Printer, a $499 fully assembled 3D printer with an 8x8x8 inches build volume. The winner will also get 300 USD from CGTrader and valuable 3D printing prizes from iGo3D, 3D Print UK and Sculpteo. The winner of the best model will be awarded with 300 USD and 3D printing prizes.
"Sweets, flowers, jewelry - it is easy to foresee the gift-giving moves of a man in love, right? Well, it is not a secret, that the best gifts are those which can surprise. One thing that definitely surprises is 3D printing."
Valentine's Day is a perfect opportunity to woo a loved one with customized, 3D printed jewelry. A new platform called Dyo – short for "design your own" – makes this easy. The service is offered by Matter.io, a startup in Cambridge, Massachusetts founded by a team of engineers from Cornell and MIT. Dyo allows you to design your own 3D printed jewelry in your browser.
"Skip the waxy chocolates and generic gifts and give something different this Valentine's Day - designed by you and made just for them." says Dyo. Every product on Dyo is customizable and made to order. Customers are able to add unique messages on jewelry and they can also see realistic previews of their design. Each piece uses personal data to create one of a kind jewelry you can order in plastic, metal or sterling silver, and prices range from $30 to $140.
But if youre worried that your design skills are not quite up the task, you can check out the Valentine Gift Guide from i.materialise.
