Yesterday Ultimaker announced some unfortunate news, on Sunday around 30 units of their popular Ultimaker 2 printers were stolen from the company's warehouse in the Netherlands.

Ultimaker, which is located in Geldermalsen have asked people to help them recover the stolen units by keeping an eye out for suspicious sales of Ultimaker 2 printers and reporting the serial numbers to the company. The serial numbers will look like this: UM2A07 – MES133755. The company hopes to prevent these units from being sold as buyers would pay for the printers without any of the guarantees or warranties to which they are entitled.

The stolen Ultimaker 2 3D printers range in build completion from "some to fully deliverable". All buyers should understand that non-calibrated or improperly stored 3D printers will show defects in printing.

The maker community has reached out to Ultimaker, and the company expressed appreciation for the support on their forum. They also urged people not to try identifying the thieves themselves.

While tips are welcome, the detective work should be left to the professionals.

That's quite unfortunate. That's no small amount of capital, hopefully they had insurance and having serial numbers should help... if they are not parted out.
