Autodesk Meshmixer updated on Tuesday with a nice all-in-one suite for 3D printing with new features.

Autodesk released a new version of Meshmixer, a mesh editing program with a strong focus on 3D printing last September. Meshmixer is a free and powerful prototype design tool for working with 3D mesh files. Now, besides all of the mixing, sculpting, healing, stamping, painting tools of Meshmixer you always had, you can choose your printer and other settings for 3D printing your creation.

The update includes integrated 3D Print Preview with model analysis based on selected printer, material visualization, and print-level repair, hollow, and thicken tools. You can click the "Print" button which loads an arsenal of simple analysis and layout tools to arrange, heal, and even print directly to a 3D printer. See the video below for a quick teaser of what is new.

The integration with 3D printers is intended to make the process to 3D printing even more streamlined. For example, now you can mash a bunch of meshes together and use "Make Solid" to heal them all together into a 3D printable object.

You can repair an unprintable model with automatic repairing in the print bed layout screen. If you want to save time and material, you can "Hollow with Wall Thickness", making your model a hollow print with no infill. The analysis tools (Strength, Stability, and Slicing) let you visualize how your printed model will look and perform before printing it. And, with Windows 8.1, there's native print support from Meshmixer that users will have the option to print directly to their printer.

The Meshmixer 2.1 is free for Mac or Windows (32/64 bit), you can download it here.

Thanks to Kris for the tip!

Thank you Autodesk! Way better than the Kickstarter I sent $$ to for MeshUp from Uformia. The team at Uformia will never finish their project, but I guess they got lots of $$ to try
