One of the simplest and most common toys is the yo yo. A round piece of carved wood or plastic, and a piece of string has entertained people for centuries. In the past, to make a yo yo you need to have an expensive piece of machinery called a lathe. But now, with 3D printing you can make yo-yos in various sizes and materials.
Here is an awesome 3D printed yo yo with a custom stainless steel rim. Its creator 'east' says this yo yo, called Three Dimension Type1, was designed for those yo-yoers who want a custom designed yo-yo of their own. The body was printed in Nylon and the rim was printed in stainless steel separately. Then the parts were assembled together with off-the-shelf bearing locks.
The 3D printed yo yo is slightly over-sized with a 61.5 mm diameter which feels enormous in hand. A big yo-yo brings more weight, this 3D printed yo yo is no exception. Its creator says the yo yo weighs 60.7 grams but it is spread out over that large body so it never feels chunky on the string.
The rounded design feels great while holding it and there are no rough edges to cause pain, the finish is smooth to the touch.
Specs:
- Diameter: 61.5 mm
- Body width: 44 mm
- Weight: 60.7 grams
- Body Material: Nylon
- Rim Material: Stainless
- Bearing : Size C (JAM Larger Sutra)
- Response: YYF Slim (JOKER pad slim 60)
