Buying an engagement ring is an important event for you and your fiancé, but it can be confusing. How to buy a beautiful, quality diamond engagement ring that your fiancé will love - without blowing your budget? What is the best combination of color, clarity, cut, carat?

Brilliance, one of the leading online retailers of diamonds and engagement rings, has launched a new program '3D Ring’ that could revolutionize online buying when it comes to personalized, specific purchases. For customers who have access to 3D printers Brilliance will provide ring files that will assist with deciding on what size/carat to purchase. If you do not have 3D printers, Brilliance will send you 3D printed models.

Find your ring size

When you're buying online, it's important to get the size right ahead of time. It matters when the Ring is specially made for Engagement or Wedding, a special occasion that occurs once in lifetime. With 3D printing, you can accurately measure your ring size, at home.

For example, if you do not know your ring size, try printing a few 3D rings in different sizes. Brilliance says these 3D printable rings are made specifically using the guidelines that Brilliance's master jewelers and designers use when sizing a ring, so you can be 100% confident of your ring size before ordering.

Try a diamond shape

Most diamond shapes are round, square (cushion), rectangular (princess, Asscher, emerald, radiant), heart-shaped, pear-shaped, oval, or marquise (like a pear but pointed on both ends). You may be told that diamond shapes need to be matched to the type of person you are.

So if you are unsure what the different shapes will look like on your finger, try on a 3D printed version of any shape you are considering in a standard 1 carat size. Heart and round shapes are better for larger fingers, and likewise not flattering to thin fingers. So it's important to try on a variety of styles for contrast, and this could help you narrow your search for the perfect diamond shape.

Compare diamond carat sizes

Can't decide between a 1 or 1.25 carat diamond? Try on 3D printed rings with different carat weights so you can see the actual size difference between the different weights and find out if that stone is not enough, too much, or just right on your finger. Brilliance provides you access to a range of sizes from ½ carat to 2 carats, in all 10 shapes.

"As an e-commerce site, we are always looking for ways to replicate the in-store shopping experience - often customers need to physically see something before they want it." says Shai Barel, Director of Strategic Partnerships at Brilliance. "As an online jewelry retailer specializing in engagement rings, this poses a particular dilemma with such a specific, emotional and expensive purchase."

"The key here is to let them SEE the difference in shape, size or carat instead of buying it online only to return it a few days later. Ultimately, we will have our inventory available for printing." Barel said.

Currently, Brilliance offers this service free of charge to anyone who is interested. "This will truly revolutionize the online buying industry and we are excited to be at the forefront of such a venture." Barel added.
