The competition jury was comprised of Ikuo Maeda - chief designer of Mazda, Janusz Kaniewski - independent car designer, well known Polish actress Anna Dereszowska and designer duo Paprocki & Brzozowski.
The winning car model was printed on a 3D printer, and then assembled entirely by Solveere - one of the most respected and longest operating company in Polish additive manufacturing industry.
Though perhaps hardly anyone knows about this, Polish engineers are the leaders in worldwide automotive design sector. The winner is "Mazda Whisper" model made by Maciej Meroniuk in collaboration with Janusz Kaniewskim and Solveere. It was a 1:5 scale model (65 cm long) created with FDM and 3SP (Scan, Spin and Selectively Photocure) technology. The 3D printers that were used in this project were Envisiontec's Ultra 3SP and Beijing Tiertime's Inspire D290. After printing, the parts were polished, painted and then assembled.
The biggest challenge of this project is the time, said Michal Kosinski and Maciej Patrzalek of Solveere. But they managed to finish the work in 10 days, and the final result was stunning.
"We specialize in production of scale models and have been working with various kind of prototypes for the automotive industry for a very long time," said Maciej Patrzalek, founder and co-owner of Solveere. "Mazda came directly to us. Time and quality were paramount factors affecting this job."
It is not clear whether the winning concept car model will be ever produced, however, the "Mazda Whisper" model will certainly win applause for its design. In addition to publicity and fame, project winners received cash prizes of 10,000 PLN (about 2500 € / 3000 $).
