While consumer 3D printers are often limited to creating hand-sized objects, German studio BigRep wanted to create an affordable 3D printer that can build furniture in full size. BigRep unveiled its first product, BigRep ONE in February 2014. With a working volume of 1060 x 1070 x 1105 mm, 1.3 cubic meters (45 inches x 39 inches x 47 inches, 46 cubic feet), BigRep ONE can fabricate things on a 1:1 scale, making it one of largest commercially available fused deposition modeling (FDM) 3D printer in the world.

Created by Berlin-based artist Lukas Oehmigen and his friend Marcel Tasler, BigRep's machine is constructed with a full aluminum frame, incorporating CNC components to provide strength and robustness. It includes dual extruders and can print PLA, ABS, PVA, HDPE, PC, Nylon, TPE, Laywood and Laybrick.

BigRep is nominated as "Business Newcomer of the Year 2014" at the 3D Printshow in London. From September 4th till 6th visitors to the show at the Old Billingsgate building in London will be able to see and test the BigRep printers on site.

According to the BigRep team, global sales of the BigRep ONE have already started and more printers are set to be shipped within the next weeks from Berlin to Europe, Asia and the USA. If you fancy crafting some nice tables and chairs at home, you might want to check out the details of the printer. It will set up back an eye-watering $39,000 but it creates compelling design opportunities. It takes only 5 days of print time, two spools of material to print a full-sized end table, said the company, with dual tool heads offering 100 micron resolution.

At this year's 3D PrintShow, Big Rep is going to unveil it´s tops secret, brand new model aimed at industrial and highly professional customers. A production ready prototype will be showcased to the world for the first time. The new model features ultra high precision 3D printing and provides all the necessary security features required by industrial manufacturing environments.

Oemigen, CTO and Founder of BigRep states: "Our goal is to make full-scale printing affordable for everyone in the creative fields, prototyping and manufacturing. We are setting the standard in this class and BigRep will become the premier 3D printer for printing real-size 3D objects."

René Gurka, CEO of BigRep adds: "BigRep is now entering into a new stage. With a team of over 20 employees, which is constantly growing and our new premises in Berlin-Kreuzberg we are able to manufacture and deliver well over 100 printers in the next 12 months. A strong network of resellers around the globe guarantees seamless support and continuous innovation for our customers who will build the international BigRep Community."

Not everyone might have the patience required to print the table in "only" 5 days.
