The wait is almost over for early adopters of FABtotum. 3D printing company FABtotum, announced today that the FABtotum Personal Fabricator, an all-in-one hybrid additive/subtractive CNC device that can print, cut, mill and scan, has begun distribution to early adopters.

"Today we celebrate a year-long effort that culminated with today's event," FABtotum CEO and Co-founder Marco Rizzuto said. "With the launch of the FABtotum we salute the birth of a new rapid manufacturing paradigm."

The company launched the FABtotum last year and raised more than $589,000USD on crowdfunding site Indiegogo, 1,179% of of its $50,000 goal.

The FABtotum multipurpose 3D-printer is a neat 360x360x360mm cube and can fit on every desk. Its build volume is 210x240x240mm and Z precision is up to 0.47 microns.

Fabtotum features a dual head, with an engraving/milling spindle motor that can be used to machine common materials including wood, light alluminium or brass alloys. It can be switched to subtractive mode by removing and tiltomg the double sided printing plane and exposing the milling plane with built in fixtures to secure your workpiece.

Along with 3/4 Axis Subtractive Machining, Fabtotum is capable of 3-axis hybrid Additive / Subtractive manufacturing, meaning you can work in dual mode without loosing the position.

In addition, you will be able to scan objects with a built in laser scanner.

Powered by Open source Arduino-derived logic and Raspberry platform, the FABtotum comes with a 8GB built-in memory, autonomous printing capabilities and it can be controlled by any computer, tablet or smartphone with a web browser.

"FABtotum is also easy to use, desktop-friendly and require low-mantainance," states the company in their press release.

With an open-source approach to software and hardware development, the FABtotum features a software plugin system and an expandable head mount.

First and third party optional heads, as well as other designs, are in the development process, and will exploit all of the FABtotum capabilities as a platform.

You can now pre-order the fully assembled FABtotum multipurpose 3D-printer on its webstore for €825 ($1082).
