3DHubs, a network of 3D printers, has secured USD 4.5 million (EUR 3.7 million) in Series A led by Mark Evans, General Partner at Balderton Capital. The company also expands it activities abroad. In addition to the Office in Amsterdam, 3D Hubs opened up their first US office in New York at the Brooklyn Navy Yard.

3DHubs connects owners of 3D printers with people from their neighborhood who want to print objects but do not have access to the expensive devices. It enables everyone with a 3D printer to join and earn money with their 3D printer. Users just need to choose their area, upload a model, and they can then get fast and affordable 3D printing service offered by local 3D Hubs.

Founded in April 2013 by co-Founder & CEO Bram de Zwart and co-Founder & CTO Brian Garret, the company has connected about 7,000+ 3D printers in 140 countries.

The investment will help 3D Hubs to expand the number of users of their digital marketplace and the products being produced locally.

"Our goal for the coming year is becoming the #1 platform for 3D Printing by connecting over 25% of the world population to local 3D printers. We see this network of 3D Printers as the foundation, not the end goal." writes 3D Hubs in a press release.

The company works together Autodesk, world's largest 3D software provider to integrate the 3D Hubs 3D print network API into the Autodesk 123D family of apps. It also partners with consumer brands like Fairphone so instead of getting your 3D printed phone case via post, consumers can pick up their case at local 3D Hubs.

Mark Evans, General Partner at Balderton Capital, will join the two founders on the company board.

3D Hubs reports that 75,000 unique 3D models were uploaded and over 30,000 prints were made in less than a year. So it is not a crazy idea for the company to open a new office in New York. "[It is] the hotbed of 3D Printing," says 3D Hubs.

More money but not a better service, the more I use it the more I hate it. My thoughts at http://3dhubsucks.free.fr/
