123D Catch is a free app from Autodesk that lets you create 3D scans of virtually any object. Started out few years ago as Project Photofly in Autodesk Labs, the 123D Catch allows you to convert a set of digital photos into a 3D model.

Formerly 123D Catch is available for iOS, Mac, and PC, now this software has come to your Adroid. It's free, and it doesn't require any additional hardware besides the camera already built in.

In the Android version, all you do is take a bunch of pictures from different angles around the object you're trying to model. You can capture things such as friends, sculptures and buildings, the app suggests capturing 20-40 photos of them. The capture interface will guide you through the process with the Integrated Photo Compass. Then the app will assemble them into a working 3D mesh that can be included in your computer game or 3D printed in plastic or chocolate on your RepRap or MakerBot.

The other half of the app's functionality is sharing and browsing 3D models. You can share the 3D models with friends through Twitter, Facebook and email. Users can also follow each other and showcase their own work from around the world through the in-app gallery. Captures are stored in the cloud so you can access them from all your devices. The app also exports models in a variety of formats from the 123D online community for use in other 3D tools and projects, such as 3D printing.
