There has been lots of new ways to use 3D printing. 3D printer manufacturer Ultimaker and 3D printing and design house Bhold announced today a new partnership that allows anyone around the world with a 3D printer to print prototypes of the next Bhold x Ultimaker product at home and send in feedback that will directly influence the final product design.

Bhold Labs is a design house aiming to create innovative and user-centric designs. It has a line of 3D printed accessories for home, office, and travel. Bhold labs use community feedback to rapidly iterate on and improve physical product design using the speed and flexibility of 3D printing. Bhold is the first to introduce the concept of "beta testing" for physical products in September 2013.

Today with Ultimaker Bhold will start to make available digital 3D files of the next set of prototypes for anyone with a 3D printer to download, 3D print and test at home.

Bhold's Susan Taing says, "I admire Ultimaker's advanced hardware and open source philosophy which has led them to have one of the strongest, most supportive communities in the maker movement to date. I'm excited to take Bhold's product design to the next level through thoughtful feedback from their community."

Ultimaker's Matthijs de Deugd says, "3D printer owners, whether they're a professional, a hobbyist or a firsttimer, are always looking for new, inventive ways to use their 3D printer. We think this is an excellent way for them to interact with the latest 3D printing technology and our machines, to see a new crowdsourced product come to life through their feedback."

All prototypes will be uploaded to Ultimaker's community at YouMagine.com starting in October and the final product is expected to launch in December 2014. You can apply to be a tester here.

So... you do the dirty work with your own material and they improve the product to get more cash? They have a lot of nerve...
