Bendgate needs little introduction. How could anyone with even a remote interest in technology miss it? Very soon after the release of the brand-new iPhone 6 Plus on the 19th of September, reports began surfacing that this very popular piece of machinery was prone to bending when placed in the owner's back pocket at sat on.
Images of bent phones flooded social media, to the horror of Apple enthusiasts and to the glee of many Android users. Although it has since been revealed that it has been vastly exaggerated – only nine actual complaints had been received by Apple, while millions of phones had already left the shelves – Bendgate has officially become a thing. And Consumer Reports showing that it exceptionally difficult to actually bend a phone, as it would take 90 pounds of force, can do little to stop it.
However, if you happen to be one of those 9 confirmed suffers of this terrible affliction – or one of those embarrassed people who did not reveal their eternal outrage on social media – take a deep breath.
While it won't actually fix your troubled phone, a Shapeways designer has created a special case for bent phones, that can help you begin living with your terrible disability. Fernando Sosa, a designer with a comedic streak who has earlier made headlines with his Vladimir Putin butt plug, has released the iPhone 6 Bendgate Case on 3D printing marketplace Shapeways. This 3D printed phone case will fit snugly around your deformity (and if it doesn't, bend it slightly!) and is available in 12 different colors. Priced at $19.99, it's time to move on. You can find it here.
However, those of you who have a 3D printer at home, why not print your own? Thingiverse user Jerid has already uploaded a fully printable design that is free to download. You can find it here.
