Last month, MakerBot announced the Bold Machines, an innovation workshop at Stratasys that partners with innovators to showcase Stratasys, MakerBot, and Solidscape 3D Printers.
One of Bold Machines' first projects is Margo. Margo is an inspiring character that will star in a full-length animated feature. She is a smart young detective whose parents have gone missing on a space exploration mission, is the central character of a fully 3D printed storyline created by Bold Machines co-founders Bre Pettis and Robert Steiner, with the help of Anthony Willie.
Since then Bold Machines has worked with artists to get the characters made, and are launching the concepts on a mission to explore the frontier of film-making by starting with 3D printed models. End of last month, they launched their second character Mr. Walthersnap, a powerful businessman who uses a powerful psycho-chemical agent to make people agree with him. You can download Mr. Walthersnap here and print him out.
Yesterday, Bold Machines released its third character: Margo's dog Eddie for your 3D printing pleasure from the Margo movie series.
Here is a back story about this dog:
Margo's workshop is filled with advanced prototypes of technology that nobody else in the world has ever seen. One evening, she brings her dog, Eddie to the workshop and he immediately goes to a section of the workshop filled with jet turbines and returns with a jet pack on his back. He trots over to a wall, nuzzles a brick and a secret escape exit opens up. After barking 3 times, the turbines windup and Eddie is flying out the secret escape exit into the night sky.
"Having a flying dog will probably come in handy." thinks Margo as Eddie returns making a crash landing and trotting over to sit at her side.
As with Margo, this model was created specifically for the MakerBot Replicator Z18 3D printer. You can download the files here and print out Eddie the dog and his jetpack today. Bold Machines is also offering a special discount if you are inspired and want to buy a MakerBot Replicator Z18 3D printer. The discount code TENOFFZ18 can save you 10% ($649.90) on a $6,499 MakerBot Replicator Z18 (for the month of October only).
