It's no secret that things can get a little bit weird around Halloween. Perhaps it's the spooky sensation that accompanies that day, or the copious amounts of alcohol that tend to be consumed, but you can often see and feel some strange things every Halloween.

While I used to think this was limited to people, it turns out that 3D printers and their producers aren't immune either. For last week, the Illinois-based 3D printer manufacturer 3DP Unlimited revealed one of the largest single-piece 3D printed creations we've ever come across: A 27-inch tall Frankenstein Monster head.

Printed in a fittingly green PLA, this giant head took a massive 144 hours (or six whole days) to be 3D printed. Its total dimensions are an impressive 21.65" x 27.36"x14.37" (55 x 69 x 37 cm). Unsurprisingly, the head is quite heavy as well, weighing in at approximately 8.7 lbs (3.95 kg). Recreating this very cool Halloween decoration will cost you about $220 for the green PLA filament alone. Pretty impressive single print, right?

The head was revealed as part of a Halloween party thrown by 3DP Unlimited's parent company PBC Linear, where it was an obvious big hit.

Obviously, you'll need a printer with a large enough print bed to accommodate such a monstrosity as well. For their printer, 3DP Unlimited chose their signature 3DP1000 Large Format 3D Printer. This printer is pretty big itself: it has a build area of 1m x 1m x 0.5 m and obviously prints at an industrial strength. This XXL size printer is designed by and for engineers, and can be used for a host of industrial applications at any size.

For more on 3DP Unlimited, you can catch them at the International Consumer Electronic Show (CES Show) in Las Vegas, Nevada from 6 to 9 January 2015. The 3DP Unlimited booth will feature an on-going live demonstration of large format 3D printing, along with a collection of never-before-seen large 3D print samples.
