At Euromold 2014, Californian 3D printer maker Asiga has launched the Pico 2, an advanced precision 3D printer for direct manufacturing applications including jewelry manufacturing, dental restorations and hearing-aid production.
The Pico 2 is based on Asiga's SAS (Slide-And-Separate) technology which is claimed to allow a large build area while maintaining the lowest fabrication forces of any upside-down stereolithography system. The result is minimal support structures and reliable accuracy for various applications.
The Pico 2 also features WiFi and Ethernet connectivity, precision all-glass custom optics, 405nm and 385nm UV-LED options. An open material system allows users to use any suitable third party material.
Each Pico system comes with a free package of Asiga Composer, an intuitive, automatic STL & SLC support and build preparation package. Based on Asiga's optimal support algorithm, parts are supported automatically only where absolutely required by the part geometry.
The Pico 2 is able to achieve one micron layer thickness, making it suitable for manufacturing dental restorations including crown and bridge, partials, inlays, onlays, as well as jewelry manufacturing and hearing-aid production.
It also features auto power-off, quick release system for fast material change-over, internal radiometer of automatic LED power calibration and touch screen display that allows users to check real-time print progress. Single-Point calibration and efficient material change-over can all be done in under 60 seconds.
