3D Systems has partnered with fashion brand NOOKA since last November to deliver a special edition 3D printed Zub 40 watch collection for tech enthusiast alike.
NOOKA is a New York fashion design company founded by artist/designer Matthew Waldman. The collection combines NOOKA's original and timeless Zub 40 timepieces with colorful and interchangeable 3D printed bands. Each band is created from an individually unique file and dyed in a small batch, and users are encouraged to customize the band with their favourite color and style.
In the video below, Waldman introduced how he is taking advantage of his CubePro 3D printer to stretch the potential of his designs. He says that having a 3D printer in his studio is an integral part of prototyping, testing ideas and exploring new forms. He advices designers to not get hung up on technology - 'always concentrate on concept, the narrative because that's what creates compelling design.' But on the other hand, he tells designers DO get hung up on technology, as 'new techniques open up new aesthetics and a new way to look at the physical world.'
