Dutch 3D printing filament manufacturer ColorFabb has added a new material to its XT Filaments range. The company announces today ColorFabb XT-CF20, a copolyester based carbon fiber composite material based on the unique Amphora 3D polymer from Eastman Chemical. ColorFabb says the new filament consists of 20% or more specially sourced carbon fibers, making it very suitable for 3D printing.
Features of ColorFabb XT-CF20:
- Extreme High Flex Modulus (6.2 GPa) / twice as stiff as PLA
- Moderate strain at break (8-10%), so no extreme brittle filament, butt toughness
- High Glass Temp. (Tg = 80C)
- Very high Melt strength
- Very high Melt Viscosity
- Good dimensional accuracy and stability
- Low odor / Styrene Free solution
- Easy processing on many platforms
- Highly attractive matt black surface
"With this new filament we have been testing on 8 printers for 6 weeks, without a single nozzle jam or other related thermal issues." notes ColorFabb in a press release.
Because of the abrasive nature of the carbon fibers which can accelerate nozzle wear of brass nozzles, ColorFabb recommends users to use nozzle's from Stainless steel or hardened copper alloys.
Founded as a brand name of Helian Polymers, a sister company of Peter Holland, ColorFabb has a lot of experiences in making special filament for various industries. To demonstrate the awesome characteristics of XT-CF20 ColorFabb has printed an OpenRC Truggy based on the design files on the Thingiverse using their new material.
ColorFabb XT-CF20 is priced at €49.95 / per spool (750 grams). It will be available for pre-ordering through ColorFabb's webshop starting today February 4th. The company expects to start shipping at the end of February.
