Good news for fans of Printrbot 3D printers. The long-awaited successor to the Printrbot Simple, the v2 3D printer, is nearly ready for prime-time. As the company’s founder and CEO Brook Drumm revealed, the Printrbot Simple v2 can now be pre-ordered online, with shipping beginning in late July of this year. What’s more, Drumm was happy to share a sneak preview of this latest addition to the Printrbot family, which will be primarily focused on ease of use.

Printrbot, of course, is one of the earliest 3D printing companies to benefit from the power of crowdfunding. Originally born in the garage of American maker Brook Drumm, the Printrbot 3D printer was catapulted into the international 3D printing scene during a widely successful Kickstarter campaign back in 2011. Since then, Printrbot and Drumm quickly built up a reputation for delivering excellent consumer 3D printers. Over the years, the various 3D printers developed by the Lincoln, California-based company have sold quite well and received numerous accolades.

And if this sneak preview is anything to go by, the Printrbot Simple v2 could become just as popular as its predecessors. While Drumm hasn’t shared the full specifications for this new 3D printer, it seems like an updated version of its predecessor, intended as a very accessible machine equipped with all the features expected of 3D printers anno 2016. Among others, it includes Wi-fi capability for untethered 3D printing, an LCD touch screen, updated electronics in the form of a Printrboard G2 and Powrboard, and dual power plugs (a normal laptop psu and the ATX 6-pin molex). What’s more, the v2 is equipped with an Ubis 13S Hot End, linear rails and bearing carts, and an ON/OFF power switch (which Drumm admitted was long overdue).

What’s more, the v2 is 19 x 16 x 20 inches in size, and weighs 16 lbs. As Drumm explained, he did his best to keep the design as sleek and possible, without sacrificing his signature minimalist approach. “Love it or hate it. It dumps the round rods and bearings for all linear rails and carriages. We have improved the zy assembly to be a single block of aluminum- no adjustment or nuance when building it, it’s remarkable simple. But simple is hard. And again, these upgrades are pricey to do, but I think it’s worth it,” Drumm said of his latest 3D printer.

Competitively priced at $849.00, the Printrbot Simple v2 3D printer could easily become as popular as its predecessor. If you’re interested, you can pre-order here now, with shipping set to begin in July.
