Chinese 3D printing company Intamsys has officially unveiled its latest product, the FUNMAT HT 3D printer, capable of 3D printing in PEEK materials. The high-definition 3D printer was first shown as a demo at formnext 2016 in Frankfurt, Germany, but now, as of its unveiling at CES 2017, the new PEEK 3D printer is officially available for purchase.

The FUNMAT HT, described as “an enhanced version” of Intamsys’ earlier FUNMAT 3D printer, features a full metal nozzle that heats up to 430°C, a high temperature build plate of over 160°C, and a controlled temperature chamber. As the company explains, these features help to make the FUNMAT HT 3D printer an ideal machine for printing with PEEK materials, as well as ABS and PC plastic materials.

With a melting point up to  343°C and high glass transition point over 143°C, PEEK has become an increasingly popular material to 3D print with, as it displays high mechanical strength, toughness, flexibility, chemical and radiation resistance, as well as self-extinguishing properties. Understandably, all of these characteristics make PEEK a very appealing material for a wide range of applications, including to make electronic, aerospace, automotive mechanical, and even medical parts.

Intamsys hopes its new FUNMAT HT 3D printer, well equipped to 3D print with high quality PEEK materials, will provide professional designers and engineers with a machine that can meet their manufacturing and prototyping needs and that can help to expand and advance applications for FDM 3D printing technology. In addition to being suitable for PEEK materials, the FUNMAT HT is also reportedly good for stopping warping and cracking that can occur with ABS or PC materials.

Intamsys, a Chinese company that has been working in the 3D printing industry in recent years, also has a range of other 3D printers, including the aforementioned FUNMAT, the FUNMAT Pro, and the FUNMAT Pro HT. The latter features a slightly larger print volume than the others, with a build volume of roughly 17.7” x 17.7” x 23.6”. Intamsys has been invested in by Professor Li Zexiang, the primary investor and Chairman of DJI via Hong Kong Clear Water Bay Startup Fund. Professor Ping K. Ko, world famous micro-electronics scientist, former Dean of Engineering at HKUST (Hong Kong University of Science & Technology), is also an investor and a member of the Board of Directors at Intamsys. And as the company writes in a press release: “The vision of Intamsys is to provide outstanding intelligent additive manufacturing system to accelerate the arrival of mass customization.”

Currently, the 3D printer developer is seeking resellers and clients from around the globe for its products. Pricing information for the new FUNMAT HT 3D printer can be found by inquiry through Intamsys’ website.
