In more news from this week’s RAPID + TCT 2017 event, Shanghai-based INTAMSYS has announced a major price drop for its FUNMAT HT 3D printer. The high-definition 3D printer for PEEK materials will now cost just under $5,000, in a strategic pricing move that the 3D printer manufacturer hopes will increase product accessibility.

For those unfamiliar with the FDM system, INTAMSYS first went public with the FUNMAT HT 3D printer at last year’s Formnext 2016 conference, initially with a soft launch of a demo version. After collecting feedback and working out some kinks, the Chinese company came back full force at CES 2017, officially unveiling the new and improved FUNMAT HT as available for purchase.

An upgrade from INTAMSYS’ previous FUNMAT 3D printer, the FUNMAT HT boasts a fully equipped heat chamber, a high temperature nozzle capable of heating up to 400 degrees, and a full-range functional material capability for printing in PEEK, PC, ULTEM (PEI), and many more functional materials. The real news, however, is that INTAMSYS can now call itself the first 3D printing company to retail a high-definition FDM printer for under $5,000.

According to CEO Charles Han, that was always the company’s plan. “When we started INTAMSYS three years ago, we had a long brainstorming session on what our vision and mission should be. We took stock of the industry’s past, present, and future and realized that to make 3D printing a viable alternative to traditional manufacturing, we need to come up with machines that can print functional materials at affordable prices.”

FUNMAT HT was the outcome of that session and a subsequent three-year journey, Han said in a statement.

With a build volume of 260 x 260 x 260 mm, a print speed of 30 - 300 mm/s, and a diverse range of accepted materials including PEEK, ULTEM, PLA, ABS, Nylon (PA), Carbon Fiber, TPU, and PC, the FUNMAT HT rounds out as a solid system for anyone looking to print high-grade functional materials without burning a hole in their pocket. INTAMSYS reps are aiming to see increased applications in the aerospace, medical, and automobile industries, specifically.

The Shanghai-based manufacturer can now boast a roster of four systems for retail.

The FUNMAT HT is currently being showcased at RAPID + TCT 2017 at the David Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh. INTAMSYS staff are located at Booth no. 926 until May 11.
