Graphene composites specialist and 3D printing materials provider Graphene 3D Lab has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with graphene technology company AzTrong. A forthcoming strategic alliance will leverage the two companies respective strengths.

Graphene 3D’s range of graphene-based 3D printing filaments have been serving 3D printers for a few years now. Last October, the company even put out a conductive filament that could be used to make flexible sensors for wearable electronics.

But 3D printing filaments are just part of what Graphene 3D does. The company is a world leader in the development, manufacturing, and marketing of composites and coatings based on graphene and other advanced materials. It has more than 12,000 customers worldwide, including NASA, Ford, GE, and Harvard University.

To expand its global reach even further, the company has today announced a MoU with graphene producer AzTrong, which specializes in inks, powders, slurries, and films for graphene-based applications and solutions, and which has a strong presence in the U.S. and Taiwan.

It is this geographical reach that persuaded Graphene 3D to form a strategic alliance with AzTrong. While Graphene 3D’s “broad base of customers and extensive IP portfolio” will benefit AzTrong, AzTrong’s “large-scale manufacturing base with well-developed infrastructure” in the USA and Taiwan will give Graphene 3D a chance to widen its operations in those countries.

Ultimately, the two companies want to bring about the “cost-effective production of performance-improving graphene-based products,” focusing on the energy storage, construction, automotive, and defense sectors.

As part of the strategic alliance, Graphene 3D will develop formulations for graphene-related products, presumably including 3D printing materials, while conducting tests and quality control measurements. It will also handle marketing of the graphene-related products.

AzTrong, for its part, will perform the “large-scale manufacturing” of the products, which will be distributed by both companies including Graphene 3D’s e-commerce web stores: Graphene Supermarket, BlackMagic3D, and G6-Epoxy.

“We believe that this partnership is key to the successful commercialization of graphene products,” said Graphene 3D co-CEO Dr. Daniel Stolyarov. “So far, the market penetration of our products was hindered by the lack of manufacturing capabilities in our Calverton, NY facility. That is why we are delighted to find a reliable business partner who will assist us in implementing our ideas for new products at the commercial scale.”

“Working together with Graphene 3D will help us expand and diversify our offering for graphene products,” added Kuan-Tsae Huang, CEO of AzTrong, Inc. “As a leading supplier of graphene and graphene-based products, we are confident that our manufacturing capabilities, coupled with the broad expertise of Graphene 3D Lab will facilitate accelerated new product introductions that offer our customers new and novel graphene products.”
