Humanscope, a Toronto-based product development company, has created a smart 3D printed nightlight perfect for those among us who have fully embraced the tech takeover of our lives. Called the Aumi Mini, the compact plug-in device not only emits the usual glow of a nightlight, but is connected to your network and can alert you when you have a new message, when you have an appointment coming up, or even when your WiFi is down.

The Aumi Mini, a follow-up to Humanscope’s first Aumi smart nightlight launched in 2015, is being featured through a Kickstarter campaign which has already raised over CA $45,650 of its CA $30,000 goal. Evidently there is a market for people who want to be kept up to date with notifications, even in their sleep!

The small device is designed to fit into any USB outlet and is equipped with IFTTT support. This means that not only is the light capable of keeping you up to date with messages and emails, it can also be tied to social media mentions, weather alerts, smart locks, and even the stock market.

These options, as well as the light’s color and brightness, can be customized through an accompanying iOS or Android app. (There are reportedly 16 million color options to choose from!)

According to the Toronto-based Aumi team, the smart nightlight is nearly ready for production. Currently, the startup is testing the last few 3D printed prototypes with its PCB design, and once that stage is complete, it will begin tooling and finally head into early production.

“Once we have tooling finished we can start producing some first samples which we will then use for FCC testing,” said the Aumi Mini’s developers in a Kickstarter update. “After the FCC, we move into final production and then fulfillment.”

Through the overwhelmingly successful Kickstarter campaign, backers can get their hands on the Aumi Mini smart nightlight for as little as CA $27 (US $20). If you happen to miss out on the early bird pledge, you can still get the nightlight for a reasonable pledge of US $24. There are also a number of combo rewards you can check out. Expected delivery is December 2017.

Humanscope is a Canadian product development company founded by Steve Copeland and driven by a dedicated team of designers and engineers. The Humanscope team includes Mitch Thompson, David Snaith, Daniel Kowalewski, Nicholas Teixeira, and Wai Lun Poon.
