3D Systems has unveiled its new NextDent 5100 3D printer and 18 new NextDent resins for dental 3D printing. The news caps a busy week for 3D printing in dentistry, with several manufacturers launching products at LMT Lab Day Chicago 2018.
No, 3D printing hasn’t been swallowed by the world of dentistry, it’s just been a busy week for dental additive manufacturing. That’s because several major 3D printing companies have been attending LMT Lab Day Chicago 2018, a dental industry event showcasing the newest technologies in the business.
We’ve already seen new major new 3D printing products from Stratasys, and now its the turn of that other additive manufacturing behemoth, 3D Systems.
The South Carolina company has used LMT Lab Day to unveil its new NextDent 5100 3D printer and 18 new NextDent resins for dental 3D printing, taking the entire NextDent portfolio to 30 3D printing materials.
The NextDent 5100 3D printer lets dental laboratories and clinics produce dental devices at dramatically increased speed: up to 4x faster than other available solutions, according to 3D Systems. The 3D printer also reduces material waste and capital equipment expenditure, as well as reliance upon milling centers.

Patients also benefit from the new 3D Systems 3D printer. The machine reduces the time required to make prosthodontics and orthodontics, simultaneously cutting down the number of required office visits. (With the 3D printer, dental labs can achieve a 70-80 per cent decrease in the amount of time needed to produce dentures.)
The NextDent 5100 3D printer is powered by 3D Systems' proprietary Figure 4 technology, which facilitates high-speed 3D printing of dental devices and fixtures. It is compatible with industry-standard intra-oral scanning and software solutions.
With 30 NextDent resins, 3D Systems can also claim to offer the largest number of dentistry-specific 3D printing resins of any dental material supplier.

The NextDent 5100 3D printer will cost less than $10,000. Pre-orders can be made in the second quarter of 2018, with general availability planned for Summer 2018.
3D Systems will also release the FabPro 1000, an entry-level machine suitable for dentistry, jewelry, and engineering. It will cost less than $5,000.
