A French startup has designed a customizable 3D printed smart speaker. The product, called the OWA Speaker, is currently being featured in a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign.

Music makes the people come together, but as a “smart speaker,” OWA does a lot more than just play music. Encased in a customizable (and very stylish) 3D printed housing, the OWA speaker also includes a built-in light and connected alarm clock.

The speaker portion of the device is, of course, the primary function, and OWA’s developers promise quality sound thanks to a 20 watt speaker capacity (2x 10 watt speakers) in a 360° setup. Moreover, the smart speaker comes with Bluetooth 4.1 connection capabilities and a battery life of over 10 hours.

The French team behind the 3D printed OWA speaker adds that it is currently developing an accompanying app for the speaker that will give the device a connected alarm function and give users the ability to control the speaker’s light.

“Through our future application (iOS and Android)… you will be able to set up the perfect time, select your music, and choose to activate the dawn simulator to gently wake up in the morning,” it says on its Kickstarter page.

The 3D printed casing that makes the OWA so special is reportedly made from Armor 3D’s OWA PS filaments, which are made from recycled plastics. More than just being eco-friendly, the 3D printed casings can also be customized in terms of shape, pattern, and color. Currently, backers can choose from a selection of 12 colors and over 10 different patterns (brick, herringbone, wave, and net are just some of the options).

With only a week left of the Kickstarter campaign, the OWA Speaker still needs quite a few backers to meet its funding goal of $92,430. A number of early bird rewards remain, which will get you the 3D printed smart speaker for a pledge of €149 ($182). A number of other reward options exist as well.

Expected delivery for the 3D printed OWA Speakers are expected to begin in December 2018 if the Kickstarter is a success.
