Dutch Filaments BV, a 3D printing filament producer from the Netherlands, was recently acquired by the Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation via its wholly owned Mitsubishi Chemical Performance Polymers Europe (MCPP) business.
Though no specifics of the acquisition have been disclosed, Dutch Filaments has stated that Mitsubishi Chemical is “the perfect company to realize [its] rapid global growth.”
The company, based in the Dutch municipality of Helmond, was founded in 2014 and has become a recognized developer, manufacturer, and supplier of 3D printing filaments and polymer-based materials.
The acquisition will see Dutch Filaments’ 70-person facility in the Netherlands put under Mitsubishi Chemical Performance Polymers’ control. MCPP says the deal will help to strengthen its own position as a supplier of 3D printing materials. The acquisition also marks a significant step into the polymer-based 3D printing filament market for Mitsubishi Chemical.
“Mitsubishi Chemical has added polymer-based filaments for 3D printing to its performance polymers business portfolio through this acquisition,” says the Japanese corporation. “It will also advance its strategy on performance polymers and other materials across Mitsubishi Chemical group, based on technologies and networks that Dutch Filaments has been building, and further expand 3D printing related businesses.”
The Dutch Filaments website boasts a product offering of over 25 filament types and polymer 3D printing pellets.
