The use of 3D printing technology could pull manufacturing away from China or other developing nations - we heard quite a lot about it recently. Researchers by the Big Innovation Centre in UK explores the implications of 3D printing and urges the government to be proactive in confronting the challenges and opportunities. How about in the Far East?
A seminar "3D printing in China" organized by Asian Manufacturing Association (AMA) was held on Oct.19, 2012 in Beijing. Researchers and entrepreneurs discussed about "3D printing technology, technical obstacles and applications" and its development in China. A new "China 3D Printing Technology Industry Alliance" is established for promoting 3D printing technology in the country. Wang Huaming, Professor of Materials Science and Engineering School of Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics is elected as president. Members include Tsinghua University, Wuhan Binhu Electrical Technology Company, Objet etc.
The new China 3D Printing Technology Industry Alliance would help to establish new industrial standard and framework. According the Luo Jun, CEO of Asian Manufacturing Association, an advanced manufacturing park will be set up in Asia and the development of 3D printing will get full support from the association. In the near future it is also planned to establish a national 3D printing technology R&D base and industrial demonstration base in China.
