Printing in 3D is getting easier. Tiertime (PP3DP) announces today the immediate availability of the UP! 3D Printer Driver for Windows 8.1. Customers with an UP! 3D Printer and Windows 8.1 can automatically install the latest UP! 3D Printer driver directly from Windows Update.

The driver works with Microsoft's latest operating system to control the printer, that means you could now open a 3D design in a program like 123D Design or SolidWorks, and tell the file to print directly to a UP! 3D Printer.

Other manufacturers are also supporting the new Windows 8.1 driver system. In November 2013, MakerBot announced that MakerBot owners can download the new MakerBot 3D Printer Driver for Windows 8.1 and print directly to their MakerBot Replicator 2 Desktop 3D Printer. 3D Systems' drivers for its Cubify printers will come soon as well.

Microsoft announced in June 2013 that it was working on 3D printing support for Windows 8.1. The goal was to make 3D printing as easy as printing a document from Microsoft Word. It looks like Microsoft was successful.

Thanks to Kris for the tip!
