Traditional 3D Printing materials such as PLA and ABS have limited technical capabilities due to the nature of the polymers. But now Michigan-based startup 3DXTech, a division of Global Polymer Group (GPG) wants to change it by developing innovative solutions to solve difficult those technical challenges.

3DXTech has announced their first three specialty filaments that can be used in existing FDM/FFF 3D Printers.

iOn High-Performance ABS/PA Alloys

The first one is iOn High-Performance ABS/PA Alloys, which leverages the strengths of both ABS and Nylon (PA). 3DXTech says this 3D Printing filament prints like ABS, but has many of the performance attributes of Nylon. It has improved thermal, mechanical, & chemical performance compared to standard ABS.

The iOn ABS/PA Alloys can be used to create parts that focus on functionality, not just fit and finish. It is currently available in four colors (Black, Red, White, & Blue) and in 1.75mm diameter, and suitable for use on any printer that has a heated bed. The iOn ABS/PA Alloy is priced at $32.95 / 0.5kg reel or $42.95 / 1kg reel.

3DXNano ESD Carbon Nanotube Filaments

The 3DXNano is based on carbon nanotube (CNT) technology and can be used to print critical parts in the Auto, E/E, Industrial, and Semi-Con markets that require electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection and a high level of cleanliness. The material is manufactured from 100% virgin ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) resin and multi-wall carbon nanotubes.

"The CNT-based filaments have superior ductility, cleanliness, and consistency compared to traditional carbon black compounds." notes the company. 3DXTech currently manufactures CNT-based filaments in 1.75mm diameter only. The 3DXNano ESD ABS is priced at $42.95 / 0.5kg reel or $62.95 / 1kg reel.

3DXMax HIPS Support Material

3DXTech has also introduced 3DXMax HIPS support material which is formulated specifically to be easily dissolved in d-Limonene. It is manufactured from 100% virgin HIPS (High Impact Polystyrene) resin, and can be used on any printer that has a heated bed. The 3DXMax HIPS is priced at $34.95 / 1kg reel.

3DXperimental platform

After these filaments being tested on their 3 printers, 3DXTech will offer limited quantities – often only 15-20 rolls at a time – to a select group of customers via 3DXperimental platform. If you would like to get these experimental grades, you just need to sign-up on their website or Like their Facebook page to be the first one to test one these new filament.

Nice work, but please be aware that HIPS (High Impact Polystyrene) contains 1,4 butadiene which can cause cancer at high gas emissions.
