SingPost, Singapore's National postal service operator, is rolling out new generation post offices islandwide as part of its ongoing efforts to transform its post office network. SingPost opened its eighth new concept post office at Suntec City Mall this week. Small businesses and end-consumers can try out a new 3D printing service to print out cost-effective prototypes and customised objects.

Customers can customise 3D figurines using a 3D scanner and purchase 3D printed customised gifts such as accessories and figurines. SingPost is piloting this 3D printing service in collaboration with 3D Matters, with charges range from SGD19.90 ($16) for a pendant or bangle to SGD459 ($358) for a full-body figurine.

In a statement released on Oct 3, SingPost group said they plan to remodel post offices into modern, efficient "vibrant lifestyle hubs" in order to meet customer's e-commerce and digital needs.

Dr Wolfgang Baier, SingPost's Group Chief Executive Officer said: "Our new-generation customers are digitally-inclined, buying online and on-the-move, and they expect a post office experience that is digitally integrated."

SingPost began to integrate essential services with digital access under one roof since March 2014. Over the next few years, all post offices will undergo a major revamp and be integrated with a 24/7 auto-lobby to bring round-the-clock access to customers. Besides 3D printing, customers also have the option to browse through stamps and other philatelic products on tablets, before completing their purchases at the counter. The new post office houses POPStation, SAM (Self-service Automated Machines) and also an ezy2ship kiosk allowing customers to prepare mailing labels on their own. Customers can also track parcels, calculate postage or locate a post office through mobile.

Mr Elvin Too, SingPost's Vice President for Post Office Products, Services & Network said: "We are innovating for the future. Our customer needs are ever changing. This Innovation Corner serves as a testbed for innovative new services that can be offered at post offices in the future, such as 3D Printing. That way we can ensure the post office always offers services that are relevant to Singapore."
