Las Vegas, Nevada based startup Full Spectrum Laser LLC (FSL), and its FSL3D subsidiary, a 3D printer manufacturing company, has received a $10 million growth equity investment from Summer Street Capital III, L.P., a Buffalo, NY-based private equity fund.

FSL plans to use the financing to expand its engineering and R&D teams as well as develop sales, marketing, and customer support initiatives.

Founded in 2010 in a Las Vegas garage by Henry Liu, a Stanford University PhD in Mechanical Engineering and Applied Physics, FSL and wholly-owned 3D printing subsidiary FSL3D, designs, manufactures, and sells a full range of consumer and industrial grade laser products including cutting / engraving lasers and the Pegasus Touch Laser 3D Printer.

FSL3D's first generation 3D Printer, Pegasus Touch, utilizes laser found in your Blu-ray player to make models. Based on years of experience of controlling lasers properly, Pegasus Touch's control electronics can pulse its laser source at over 500kHz while moving the laser beam at 3000mm/sec using special FSL real-time laser processor used in $100,000 scanning laser systems. The Pegasus Touch is able to cure resin in a speed up to 3000mm/sec (>10x faster than most FDM, up to 6x faster than other SLA) and can be delivered at a fraction of the price of previous laser 3D printers.

The Pegasus Touch SLA 3D printer produces layers of 25-100 microns, and has a larger build volume. It also offers smart internet connectivity to deliver 3D content through its built-in patent pending touchscreen-driven 3D Printing App Store.

The combination of impressive features and attractive price point helped Pegasus Touch raise over 800K on Kickstarter. Two Kickstarter campaigns later, FSL has raised over $1.0 million totally from backers.

"FSL has assembled a highly talented team and we're excited by the prospects for the Pegasus Touch and the 2D laser cutters and engravers, as well as additional 3D printers FSL currently has in development utilizing other technologies and materials. Each of these product offerings has excellent growth potential." said Garth Troxell, a partner at Summer Street Capital.

FSL also looks to democratize high quality 3D printing and has been working on another revolutionary patent pending technology, SuperVat. The features of the new Pegasus Touch with SuperVat technology include:

  • new custom space age material replaces silicone/PDMS release layer
  • doesn't wear out so no need to replace
  • up to 10x faster lift cycles

The details of the new Pegasus Touch with SuperVat technology will be available at CES 2015.
