Just last month, the EinScan-S Portable 3D Scanner, manufactured by Chinese company Shining 3D, made our list of Best 3D Scanners of 2015 due to its consumer-friendly price, structured light technology, and two scanning modes, all of which allow for convenient 360-degree scans of objects with an accuracy of 0.1mm. Now at CES 2016, the company has released its newest product, the EinScan-Pro Multi-Functional Handheld 3D scanner, which offers double the number of scanning modes and accuracy down to 0.05mm in a single scan, making it a promising contender for this year's list.
Alongside its shiny new 3D scanner, Shining 3D also unveiled the brand new EinStart-L, a multi-color 3D printer and the first 3D printer to pass UL safety certification in China.
As the name implies, the EinScan-Pro Multi-functional 3D scanner covers several functions, combining the convenience of a handheld 3D scanner with the precision of an industrial one, all within an affordable, consumer-grade package. Not only can it be used as a traditional 3D scanner to capture static objects for reverse engineering, it can also be used as a human body scanner for medical customization purposes, or a full-color 3D scanner for art or other projects where accurate replicas are required.
As the company explains, the EinScan-Pro 3D Scanner is powered by four distinct scanning modes for all your 3D scanning needs.
The first mode is known as Handheld Rapid Scan, which can capture 3D images at the high speed of 10 frames/second. This is ideal for 3D scanning larger objects, such as human bodies and sculptures. “For medical or customization applications, Einscan Pro can work under handheld fast scan mode, which can efficiently scan human faces and bodies at the right accuracy,” said Shining 3D.
The second mode 3D scanning mode is Handheld HD Scan, ideal for capturing the finer details of objects such the carvings or a work of art, with a high degree of portability.

Third is Auto Scan. “Matched with full-automatic table, the 360-degree scan spends only one and a half minutes,” explains the company. This mode is suited to even smaller tools, workpieces or other objects, and can achieve extremely precise 3D scans with an accuracy as low as 0.05mm.
Last but not least is the 3D scanning mode known as Free scan, where users attach their EinScan-Pro to a tripod and capture various, larger-sized objects in 3D as they please. Various types of data alignment are compatible with this mode.
The 3D scan accuracy, speeds, part size ranges, and other specifications will differ based on the 3D scanning mode you select, however to make it as clear and intuitive as possible, Shining 3D has sorted out the various specs for each EinScan-Pro mode in this useful chart:
Additionally, the EinScan-Pro comes in three different versions in order to accommodate users of all levels: the basic version, color pack, and industrial pack. The color pack, for example, enables the 3D scanner to capture high quality, full-color scans with the addition of a color camera, which can then be translated into full-color 3D prints (the 3D scanner outputs data in either STL, OBJ or ASC formats, making it highly compatible for 3D printing purposes).
Speaking of 3D printers, the EinStart-L desktop 3D printer also got its debut today. Boasting multi-color 3D printing through a single extruder, the EinStart-L also includes a fully-enclosed printing platform, easy-to-use touchscreen control, and enlarged print platform, offering a build volume of 310 x 220 x200mm (Shining 3D’s previous desktop 3D printer model, the EinStart-S, was limited to 160 x 160 x 160mm.) As Shining 3D proudly points out, their EinStart-L is also the first 3D printer to pass the international UL certification in China. UL, or Underwriter Laboratories, is a global independent safety science company, whose safety certifications are trusted by businesses, consumers and regulatory authorities around the world.
Though the official price of the EinScan-Pro has not yet been listed, the EinScan-S Portable 3D Scanner sells for roughly $1,200, and the Pro will likely be in a somewhat higher price range, while still being accessible to entry-level consumers. The EinStart-L 3D printer is currently available for pre-order for $1,799, and both new Shining 3D products are currently on display at CES 2016.

Hi there, I would like more information regarding 3D scanning to make sure is suitable for my IT environment. I would like to use 3d scanning to slice it up in 20mm slices to 3d cnc machining.
