Studio Under, a design and research studio based in Israel, has earned a worldwide reputation for ultra-fast and large-format ceramic and paste 3D printing.

Founded in 2012 by Eran Gal-Or, Liat Akerman and Omer Merzel, Holon Institute of Technology grads, Studio Under focuses on designing and printing ceramic products and selling them world-wide. In 2013, the studio unveiled colored ceramic 3D printing, a printing process that enables affordable multiple-color prints.

In April this year, the company impressed us with a massive 3D printer that features a large build volume of 800 x 800 x 850mm, with a print speed of 450mm /hour (Z axis). It has a feeding cartridge of 20 Liters, capable of printing very big objects in concrete, resins and metal pastes. According to Eran Gal-Or, their custom made extruder can withstand even the most corrosive materials.

In a recent and exciting collaboration with Autodesk, the combined team used a special parametric design software from Autodesk and the studio's 3D printer to produce a few fascinating light fixtures. See the images below:

"Our studio is at the cutting edge in 3D printing of paste materials that range from ceramics to more exotic materials such as: industrial grade polymers, concrete, different types of metals, carbon fibers, epoxies, organic materials and many more." Gal-Or said. In a recent collaboration with Micron E.M.E Ltd, a company specialized in products involving precision optics and precision motions, the team even discovered that molten glass can be 3D printed on their printer.

"This special paste system feeds material continuously to the large format 3D Paste printer, thus eliminating the need to physically replenishing the feed stock." Gal-Or added.
