The Stockholm, Sweden based startup Skriware has recently launched a Kickstarter campaign for its new 3D printer, eponymously named the Skriware, and its 3D printing marketplace, Skrimarket. The 3D printer, which was tirelessly developed by the team at Skriware over the past two years, was designed with the home market in mind, as they set out to create an accessible, and easy to use 3D printer that could print directly from their marketplace with the touch of a button.

Daniel Losinski, the CEO and founder of Skriware, explains that he was inspired to design his own additive manufacturing system when he wanted to get his young niece a 3D printer as a gift and found that all the affordable models on the market required some sort of expertise or CAD knowledge to be properly used. With this in mind, the Skriware was designed to be used intuitively by just about anyone - from a young child wanting to 3D print a toy, to a grandmother with little computer knowledge wanting to make a gift for her grandchild.

The Skriware is a wireless 3D printer that functions through a WiFi or Ethernet connection. It also features a full-color LCD touchscreen with a user-friendly interface, a USB port to be compatible with all computers or laptops, and a magnetic print bed, which facilitates the removal of the 3D printed objects from the printer. Though it was designed to be easy-to-use, the startup stresses that the 3D printer is made of durable materials, and has a high-quality output, functioning at a level comparable to 3D printers used by professional designers. Additionally, Skriware was designed to accommodate not only standard PLA filaments, but also PET-G recycled materials, giving customers an eco-friendly option.

Here are some more Skriware specs:

  • Print Area: W 150mm x D 150mm x H 130mm
  • X/Y Resolution: 0,0125mm
  • Z Resolution: 0,000625mm
  • Layer Thickness: 0,05 – 0,03 mm
  • Nozzle Size: 0,3 mm
  • Max Nozzle Temp: 235˚C
  • Power Requirements: 100-230 V, 50/60 Hz, 90 W
  • Operating Temp: 10-30˚C
  • Printer Size: W 330mm x D 345mm x H 425mm

One of the main draws of the Skriware 3D printer is that it can be easily connected to the online marketplace Skrimarket. This allows users to 3D print designs directly from the marketplace with one simple click. All of the models on the Skrimarket have been specially designed to be ready for printing, eliminating the necessity for any CAD knowledge. As stated on their page, “There’s no need to adjust, change or process the file. You just choose the model, hit “Print” and voilà! Within minutes it appears on your desk!” Of course, if you do possess 3D design skills, it is possible to download and adjust the files available on the Skrimarket.

Skriware recently showcased their new 3D printer at the Dublin Web Summit 2015, where it received lots of attention. As they say on their Kickstarter page, “We like to show off our printer, we cannot deny it. That’s why we went all the way to Dublin for Web Summit 2015 to proudly present our concept of one-click printing to the technology world.”

The Kickstarter campaign runs until January 20th, 2016 and has as its goal 440,000SEK (approx. 50,388 USD). The Skriware will reportedly retail for $999 but through the early bird Kickstarter rewards it can be bought for $799.
