At 2012 International Additive Manufacturing Forum and the 6th China National Additive Manufacturing Conference, Prof. Yusheng Shi, vice dean of the School of Materials Science and Engineering and director of the Rapid Prototyping Center of Huazhong University of Science & Technology (HUST) announced that HUST will set up the first 3D printing industry park in China. For the first phase HUST will build a large-scale rapid prototyping center manufacturing 3D printers and materials and providing 3D printing service to meet market demand. The 3D printing industry park will be located in Wuhan, China and will take over 33,333 m2 of space.
In 1994 China's first 3D printer was born in Wuhan. The next year HUST partnered with Wuhan Municipal Science & Technology Commission and Shenzhen Capital Group CO.,Ltd. to established a new company. The company provides 3D printers and 3D printing services to both domestic and international market. "We are currently developing a 3D printer in 10,000 RMB ($1,600) price range for education market." said Shi.
At the forum Chinese goverment also announced plans to invest in locally-invented 3D printing technologies to boost its manufacturing power. Stimulated by the good news, all prices of 3D printing related stocks in China rised 2~5% yesterday.
