Japanese 3D printing service Kabuku announces today the launch of a design contest with a total prize of $10,000. Kabuku launched "Rinkak" in Jan 2013, an online 3D printing marketplace that allows anyone to easily sell 3D printed products through its network. The contest will be held on "Rinkak" website and is open to anyone that involves 3D printing.
The contest theme is "Make WOW!" - 'Let's find the new possibilities of "WOW!" which applies 3D printing technologies.' notes Kabuku. Today the range of products created with 3D printing technology is limitless, the contest aims to attract more people to explore digital design and fabrication.
Kabuku's design challenges will be broken down into the following categories:
Fashion / Interior goods / Smartphone and gadgets accessories / Figurines
Each entry will be judged on the following criteria:
- Originality / Creativity
- Insights on the theme
- Storytelling
- Creativity
- Idea feasibility
The awards include:
Grand Prize (1 person)
Cash: 5,000 U.S. dollars
Rinkak coupon: 2,000 U.S. dollars
Merit Awards (1 person)
Cash: 2,000 U.S. dollars
Rinkak coupon: 1,000 U.S. dollars
Makerbot Award (1 person)

You can submit several entries, and all models have to be 3D printable in materials that are available on Rinkak.

- Hiroshi Yoshii, Character Designer / Illustrator
- Matt Webb, CEO and co-founder at BERG Ltd. (In 2012, he was named by Wired as one of Britain's top 100 digital powerbrokers. One of his major projects is "Little Printer" that could print such as ToDo list of Google calendar.
- Takumi Shimamura, Industrial designer at Qurz Inc.
- Tamaho Shigemura, Architect / Wind environment designer at Algorithm Design Lab. Inc.
This contest starts on November 18th, 2014, and final deadline is January 19th, 2015. Winners will be announced latest February 2nd, 2015.
