theFrankes.com made a spreadsheet of the parts cost breakdown for his Prusa Mendel 3D printer. Building a Prusa Mendel has costed him about $300, and that is very well done. It can be a good reference for other makers - if you could, same as him, have a patient of waiting for good deal, arranging bulk orders for a discount, and working together with suppliers.

I see the shipping costs and customs/tax missing. They make up a great deal of the final cost as you have to source the parts from many different places. Many of them outside whatever country you are in.
