San Francisco based Moddler is a 3D printing company providing high level of surface detail printing service for architects, movie industry and artists etc. Using Objet Eden 500V polyjet, an $250,000 3D printer the company is able to print very fine detail with a high degree of accuracy - layer thickness of only 16 microns (.0006" or .016mm): "that's about 1/5th the thickness of a human hair!"

(Men In Black 3 guns)

Additionally they also offer 3D scanning services with scanning resolution down to .1mm. In this video, founder John Vegher describes how the 3D printer works, their process of modeling, 3D printing and cleaning 3d prints. Each piece is carefully cleaned, prepped and packaged. The printer can build a single part up to about 20" x 15" x 8" and it takes just a few hours to print small models.

Right now the parts are all made of a resin, but Vegher expects that soon "You can print in glass, ceramics, metal..."
