Filabot, maker of Filabot Core, a system that makes filament for your 3D printer, is launching its own line of filament produced on the Filabot Core system.
Currently Filabot sells the common plastics ABS, but will be providing specialty filaments in the future.
The colors are Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, and Purple. All these colors are available in 1.75mm and 3mm diameters. All these colors are from old legos. The desired lego color is ground up into small granules, put into the hopper of the Filabot Core, then extruded into filament.
The price for 1lb (0.45kg) 1.75mm or 3mm ABS filament is $26.90. For $10 extra, customer can get a Recycling Return Service. Means once spool is empty, customer can return the original spool with the original box, filled with as much failed ABS prints that fit. Filabot can then reuse the box, spool, and recycle the failed prints. And the customer get $5.00 off his next filament purchase.

Lily how has filabot failed? The filament they are making is made from recycled plastic.

I'm sorely tempted to make my own filament extruder and upload the design to thingiverse. These guys are either off track or are getting greedy.

This is insanely overpriced... 50 per kilo? You can filament for $35 or less easily with shipping online. Where is the actual machine? And WHY the heck are you using legos, those are already a marked up product. Spare the legos and use pellets like everyone else.

Hrmm, $26.90 for 1lb abs made in a diy system on a cardboard spool, or I can just go to octave and get 1kg (2.2lbs) for $31 (with free shipping through amazon prime) on a sturdy plastic spool made with professional grade equipment. I wonder which company deserves my money......

It would be nice if they focused on their core product the Filabot. It's never available, but hey, they have over priced filament for $26.50/pound when you can get other filament for $30-40 for 2 pounds.

Great concept, but ABS can just be recycled through normal channels. It doesn't make much sense to send material back to filabot whilst being charge an additional $5 for every spool. I think they will need to work on their pricing structure or perhaps they can offer a greater discount if you send back a specific weight worth of ABS.
