Today Smartphones have all the functions we need to enjoy movies and games in a portable way. But here a simple 3D-printed case is going to turn your existing smartphone into a pair of wearable virtual reality.
Called vrAse, and developed by Edinburgh, Scotland-based Louise Bankhead, this device is a 3D-printed headset that enables you enjoy movies in a huge 3D-Perfect screen, play games in a super compact, portable, hands-free device.
How does it work?
The vrAse creates the 3D image, by sending each eye its own information. Inside the headset is a pair of wide and clear lenses which are easily interchangeable. Your existing smartphone slides inside the case so you're looking at its screen through vrAse's lenses. Each eye sees its own version of the same image, creating an effective 3D view.
You can play any movie which is in 3D format (SBS), either putting it on the smartphone memory, or streaming it, using your favorite software.
Currently compatible smartphones for the vrAse are the iPhone 5, HTC One, Xperia Z, Galaxy S3, Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 2. vrAse team says they will extend their goals to add more mobile phones in the future.
vrAse's makers are raising funds on Kickstarter, and their goal is to raise £55,000 in one and a half month. For only £58 ($90) you can now get one vrAse with an estimated delivery date of February 2014. Find more here on their Kickstarter page.
