The rise of 3D printing technology has a great impact on fashion industry. Designers are seeing benefits in going high tech to produce truly wearable products.

Dutch designer Chris van den Elzen has teamed up with Judith van Vliet to create a new shoe collection called "EXCIDIUM". The design was inspired by abandoned buildings that overtime have become overpowered by natures with moss, erosion, fungi and oxidants.

"These abandoned, derelict buildings bursting with ornaments. Overpowered by nature influences. They live their own lives." notes van den Elzen.

Van Den Elzen asked help from Construction Studio Pelser-hartman and 3D printing specialist Peggy Bannenberg. Pelser-hartman helped with 3D scanning and Bannenberg 3D printed the models at iFabrica, an open workspace for makers in Amsterdam.

The platform wedges are designed as one piece and printed with an Ultimaker 3d printer using ColorFabb's woodFill. The WoodFill is made from 20% recycle wood that is combined with polymer binders. Wood filament looks and smells like wood and can also be handled like wood, and it gives these 3D printed shoes a very natural looking. In addition, the shoes also feature leather upper and a acrylic/copper heel insert, making it more comfortable to wear.

The "EXCIDIUM" shoe collection will be on display July 11th at the biggest dutch fashion event, the Amsterdam International Fashion Week.
