The Hoover Company started out as an American floor care manufacturer in 1908. Since the 1950's the company has been dominant in the electric vacuum cleaner industry. With over 100 years of expertise, Hoover is dedicated to create and provide quality appliances and services for the home to make your life easier.
Following in the footsteps of Teenage Engineering and Jolla, Hoover will now let consumers 3D print their own accessories for its vacuums. Hoover announced today that they have launched a partnership with Makerbot to offer print-on-demand vacuum accessories for anyone with access to a 3D printer.
Two 3D printable files are live on MakerBot's Thingiverse and anyone who wants to add more functionality to their Hoover Air Cordless vacuum can download them for free. One of the accessories is a snap-on battery mount to carry the extra LithiumLife battery that comes with the Air Cordless; another is a flashlight mount for the end of the extension wand, so you can light up dark corners and the floor underneath couches and chairs.

"3D printing at home will offer unique opportunities for brands like Hoover," says Paul Bagwell, Global Vice President of Product Development for Hoover. "We wanted to explore those opportunities early in the development of the technology. We are driven by innovation that meets consumers' needs, and we are continually evaluating new technology that may help deliver this."

This pilot program began only months ago, when a team of Hoover designers, engineers and developers embarked on a mission to rethink tools completely. "How can we design vacuum tools and accessories that better address consumer needs?" The company has been finding new ways to make cleaning easier and today they are the first vacuum brand to offer print-on-demand accessories for consumers with access to 3D printers. And they won't stop there. Next spring they will release another set of exclusive tools designed to complement your Hoover vacuums.
"Our new Air Cordless vacuum felt like a great fit for this new and innovative 3DPrinting technology," writes the company.
