Bowers & Wilkins, one of the world's five largest speaker makers is investing in 3D printing technology.

Bowers & Wilkins, or B&W, is a British company that specialises in the manufacture and marketing of high quality loudspeaker systems. B&W recorded a consolidated turnover of £ 130.4 million in 2012. The group has continued its efforts in terms of innovation and new product development, with the unveiling of the A7 compact wireless music system, the P3 headphones and the PV1D home cinema subwoofer.

B&W will use 3D printing to produce spare parts and making prototypes of new products. The company believes as 3D printing scales and becomes more industrialized, there will be less need for warehouses and stock locations. "It means we won't have to hold large amounts of stock," Geoff Edwards, the company's vice-president of operations told Telegraph.

B&W's products are exported to 60 markets, Mr Edwards said 3D printing could help them to "keep up with shorter 'product life-cycles'."

"Coming out of the recession, we've seen the market moving faster. The demand for new technology is greater, so each product's life-cycle is [shorter] and our investment in equipment and people goes up accordingly."
