Table top gaming fans have been increasingly relying on 3D printing technology to produce exciting and original pieces of scenery to spice up their gaming nights – a vast improvement over the cardboard structures or the generic houses used every time. While you can find examples all over the web, the New Zealand-based Printable Scenery have proven to be exceptionally great at making 3D printed scenery. Remember their cool 3D printed Maori village for colonial wargaming? Well, the guys are now back for more, bringing a gorgeous 3D printable fantasy city to Kickstarter that just gets your fingers itching to game again.

As you might recall, the New Zealand-based team from Printable Scenery have produced various wonderful medieval-style and even futuristic scenery pieces in the past. Remember this entire 3D printed high-rise perfect for a 40K scenario? They have also built all sorts of on-demand strongholds and castles, and are now ready to share their designs with the rest of the world. If you play 28 mm tabletop games or RPGs and own a 3D printer, this could be just what you’re looking for.

As CEO Matt Barker explains, they are responding to a growing demand from the community. ‘Lots of people are buying 3D printers for war-games and role playing games but are quickly realizing there isn’t much out there to print,’ Matt says. ‘We want to get Kickstarter support in order to create a huge range of models. Winterdale is the first Kickstarter because 28mm Medieval Fantasy is the most popular product we sell. Were also hoping to get some support from the 3D Printer manufacturers. People need things to print. There’s a whole market of war game players and role playing game players who are techno savvy and willing to invest in a printer.’

And as you can see for yourself, Winterdale seems to be a complete fantasy gamer’s dream. Want some interesting scenery to fight over? Each part of this fantastic city can be ordered as a 3D printable stl file and can be given physical form on just about any desktop 3D printer. Everything seen here has been 3D printed at about 200 microns, which they feel is optimal for gaming scenery. With a paintjob of your choosing, games suddenly become fair more intense.

What’s more, all parts have been perfected over a lengthy design process, and have been specifically intended for 3D printing. ‘For the last year we have been perfecting the process of 3D printing modular gaming terrain and have built up a great following selling our models throughout the world. All our designs are modular so you can scale, customize and print buildings towers and walls. Each piece is individually sculpted for maximum detail and configured and optimized to print on small home printers,’ they explain.

Furthermore, the city falls apart into a number of different pledge goals, so you can mix and match with your existing terrain collection. For a pledge of as little as $15, you can get the downloadable files for a modular cottage collection, to make buildings and bridges in whichever way you want. Each following pledge level also entitles you to the lower tiers, so with the $40 The Tower level (for 5 modular tower pieces and 3 trees) you also get the cottage collection. The Citadel level can be yours for $65, while a pledge of $75 is enough to get the complete Winterdale set – and considering the price of mass-produced scenery parts, that’s not bad at all. And of course, a number of interesting stretch goals provide even more buildings, such as a mill, blacksmith and tavern, so a complete city is well within reach.
