It's going to be a merry holiday season: if you happen to be in New York, and looking for a good place to touch, test and tinker with the coolest tech products, you should stop by these places where you can experience the amazing 3D printing technology.
1. The Makerbot store
MakerBot has opened its first retail store in New York. Visitors can watch demonstration of the machines, be able to buy 3D printers, filament and gifts made on MakerBot 3D printers such as bracelets, watches and toys. At the official Grand Opening of MakerBot's store on Nov.20, 2012 Makerbot also unveiled a new 3D photo booth powered by ShapeShot. It costs $5 for taking three reusable shots, the resulting file is uploaded to Thingiverse. You can print it yourself or order prints in 3D from Makerbot. Depending on the size, the price ranges from $20 to $60.

2. Wired Pop-Up store
This season, Wired energizes holiday shoppers with its Pop-Up stores in London and New York. The London pop-up is only open till December 5. But its New York pop-up is open from Nov. 30 to Dec. 23rd.
What can you find in Wired Pop-up store?
A fantastical 3D printed Escapism Dress by Dutch fashion designer Van Herpen, whose celebrity fans include Bjork and Lady Gaga. In collaboration with Materialise the Escapism Dress was created using a 3D printing technology - Laser Sintering.
MakerBot Replicator 2 3D Printer
MakerBot Mixtape: Made on a MakerBot Replicator Desktop 3D printer, houses a 2GB electronic music module, three control buttons and a boatload of nostalgia.
If you like what you see, some of the products are available for purchase online.
On Sunday Dec.8 at 11 AM-2 PM, Wired Pop-Up store offers a DIY workshop to public which will feature a fun-filled day of demos and hands-on projects from companies like Cubify. RSVP required.

3. 3DEA Pop-Up store
Presented by OpenHouse, 3DEA features cutting-edge brands like Shapeways, Ultimaker, and UP! plus 3D printer. You can also find Doodle Stations for kids, a Body Scanning Station, a 3D photo booth and workshops. Even if you don't have 3D modeling experiences you could sketch a few simple design and print out your own creations using 3D modeling software and 3D printers. You can also experiment with various 3D modeling programs and join a variety of classes (charged). In the last days after Christmas they will be selling those demo printers so there might be a good deal you can get. Visiting 3DEA and playing around is free.

4. Tribeca gallery apexart workshop
On Saturday, December 8 at 11am, Tribeca gallery apexart is hosting a workshop called Imaginary Brands with MakerBot, Liz Arum, head of Education Outreach and Curriculum Development at MakerBot, will guide participants through the process of designing and printing models of their own products.
Arum will lead two sessions on 3D design and printing using the MakerBot Replicator. In each session she will demonstrate how to use Tinkercad to model, design, and print products. It's $7 if you buy tickets in advance; $10 at the door.
$7 donation in advance; $10 at the door. Parents free: RSVPs only necessary for children who participate in the morning session and all participants in the afternoon session.
