The 3D printers TNO developed in past four years, is now brought to the market by Rapid Shape, a German company specializing in creation of jewelry, via a process of lost wax casting. These new desktop 3D printers that build 3D objects by printing them layer by layer use a photo-sensitive resin and a projector to form the shape.
The 3D printers look and operate a bit like Perfactory machines of Envisiontec but it is 7 times faster than conventional machines. The prototype was built by VDL Enabling Technologies Group in Netherlands, former part of Philips company. The 3D printer was officially launched last year in Basel during the "Basel World Show". At the show their S60 – 3D printer attracted a lot of attention because of its customer flexibility, castable and highest level of precision. 
The 3D printer series includes the S60 mini, the S60 midi and the S60 maxi. Each of them has a netfabb Engine and offers different build envelope size and different resolutions from fine, super fine and ultra fine respectively:
- S60 mini: 84m x 48mm x 200mm; resolution 0.03mm
- S60 midi: 122m x 69mm x 200mm; resolution 0.05mm
- S60 maxi: 150m x 85mm x 200mm; resolution 0.06mm

- Slice Thickness: 10 / 25 / 50 /100 µm
- Building Speed: 10mm per 10 minutes at 50µ slice thickness
- Machine Control: Stand alone PC / touch screen interface / remote network control

The most impressive feature is the speed of the build, the company notes that its systems are capable of 10 mm (0.4 inch) of part in 10 minutes, depending on the type of resin. This should be one of the fastest printers in the market. In 2012 TNO has developed a newer model with smaller build envelope size. The prices of these printers are between €38,000 ~ €46,000 (US$49,800 ~ US$60,300).
This 3D printer is featured to be used for producing models to make castings for the jewelry industry and dental industry.
TNO wants to expand this 3D printing technology further into other applications, such as hearing aids and the processing of new materials such as technical ceramics.
