The Vision 3D Printer is an optimized RepRap LM8UU Linear Bearing Prusa Mendel. It is produced using precision CNC machines and designed to be a quick build and customizable 3D printer.

According to its maker Matt Underwood, a manufacturing engineer that specialized in plastics assemblies and products, it takes only 1/3 the time of a standard RepRap Prusa Mendel, 1/5 the time of an Ultimaker, or 1/4th the time of a MakerBot Thing-O-Matic, to build the vision 3D printer.

A few changes have been made to this Prusa Mendel variant:

  1. Fewer parts: nearly 70 parts (including 8 RP parts) were eliminated by the 2 main 1/2" (12mm) clear cast acrylic sidewalls.
  2. The electronics are pre-assembled.
  3. All motors, endstops, and lighting are already pre-wired with connectors. There is no need to solder anything.
  4. It comes in custom colors.

Specifications:

  • Materials: 1.75mm /3.0mm ; PLA / ABS
  • Nozzle Diameter: 0.35mm (other sizes will be available)
  • Print Speed: Up to 250mm/s
  • Layer thickness: .01mm to 0.5mm User Selectable
  • Power Supply: Variable 100-250 VAC 50/60 hz

The Vision series of 3D Printers are currently on Kickstarter, providing 5 series for crowd-funding.

The Vision "Basic" 3d Printer: 8.9" x 8.9" x 5.5" (225mm x 225mm x 140mm) building envelope, without a Heated Build Platform needed for flat ABS Plastic Prints

The Vision "Standard" 3D Printer: 8.9" x 8.9" x 5.5" (225mm x 225mm x 140mm) building envelope

The Vision "HomeTeam" 3D Printer: 8.9" x 8.9" x 5.5" (225mm x 225mm x 140mm) building envelope, with the option of having a second Extruder included and picking your own color scheme.

The Vision "Plus" 3D Printer: 8.9" x 8.9" x 8.9" (225mm x 225mm x 225mm) building envelope, with the option of having a second Extruder included and picking your own color scheme.

The Vision "Bigfoot" 3D Printer: 12.25" x 12.25" x 12.25" (311mm x 311mm x 311mm) building envelope, with the option of having a second Extruder included and picking your own color scheme.

For those early birds, if you pledge $725 you will receive a Vision "Hometeam" 3d Printer with 2 lbs of plastic; or a $850 pledge for Vision "Plus" 3D Printer Kit with 2 lbs of your choice of plastic. There are more options available for backers, check them out on Kickstarter.

In his Kickstarter campaign, Matt Underwood also mentions his plan to set up their own in house filament extrusion line with computerized process control, and furthermore, to broaden the types of plastics for 3D printing by producing plastic filament in PS, HIPS, Acrylic, PC-ABS and PC. This can be another future filament supplier providing quality products with competitive prices. So if you want to support them you can pledge for plastics for their research and development of materials.
